Children of the Carn

This episode, while it didn’t get me chuckling a lot, I did see a lot of heart going into the main plot.  I like how the writers were able to balance out Louise’s desire to make a quick buck while also showing some heart and assertive thinking (though later does throw Tina under the bus for the funeral idea that went haywire). She was able to see a business opportunity to make money and instead of doing what the ex-carnie/carnies asked her to do, she wants some money as part of the deal.  While she doesn’t get the money, I do like how she isn’t willing to do whatever everyone says so blindly.

I love how Tina acts like a big sister in the beginning when she attempts to stop everyone from going with the old man to his room (not how it sounds). However, it shows the protective side of Tina that we saw in Episode 8 of Season 15.  I do wish they listened to Tina because even though the outcome was innocent, Tina had their best interests at heart and it could’ve been a dangerous situation where Bob and Linda would have to get involved.  However, it wouldn’t be Bob’s Burgers without a little chaos and unlike Family Guy, there’s no malice or shocking moments.  However, I like Tina’s protectiveness in the beginning of the episode and how she goes along with the idea with the intention of protecting her siblings.  Hope we see all three of them work together in future season 16 episodes because it has been a while since we had a core three episode.

The carnies at Wonder Wharf are explored again since the movie and the consistency of the trailers that live behind Wonder Wharf and the colors that make the setting pop.   We got to see new characters get explored and while I wish we got to see more of the friendship/fallout in more depth, I do like how we got to see the recurring/supporting characters’ lives explored a little and hope that continues.

One thing I didn’t like was the side plot with Teddy debating whether to continue seeing his therapist after seeing her eat.  While I understand the anxiety/awkwardness of seeing your therapist outside of the office, I do think it’s shallow to stop seeing someone because of how they eat.  While he does come to his senses, the whole plot wasn’t engaging and am glad the writers made it a side story.

Finally, Mort is back and I like how he had a critical role in having the carnies come together. We also haven’t see the inside of his workplace since the start of the show so it was refreshing to see it again and Gene’s line of how the restaurant is dead…classic!

Overall, a decent episode but the side plot isn’t interesting and would only watch for the main storyline in my opinion.
