Heartstopper Forever

Truth be told, I am not ready to say goodbye to Heartstopper. Oseman has done an incredible job of telling the story of LGBTQ+ individuals in an authentic and dignified manner. There’s no shock value, but rather true storytelling. The trailer for Heartstopper forever is powerful as we see Nick, Charlie, and the gang get ready for the future.
While there is plenty of light-hearted romance, something that hasn’t been explored yet in the Heartstopper graphic novels/tv show is Nick’s own mental health journey as he starts to think about going to Uni after Primary school. The trailer, while revealing the darker elements in Nick’s character with how much pressure he is under. I know it’s going to be a heartbreaking unraveling of a character that we’ve grown to love over the course of the show, but is necessary considering all he has had to go through (e.g. father leaving his family, homophobic brother, and Charlie’s eating disorder). I love to see Charlie will get the opportunity to support him and assure he will be fine while Nick is at college.
I love the graphic novels and TV show and I know it has to end sometime but I’m not ready! However, the trailer is a good balance of giving us the story without spoiling the plot. One note is I wish the graphic novel for volume 6 came out sooner so we have some context as to what we are getting ourselves into. However, in the past reading the novels and then watching them down the road, it hasn’t always been an easy watch so I understand Oseman doing this to protect the fandom of some of the darker/mature elements in the story.
Cannot wait to watch this next month!
