April Movie Rankings
April is gone and May has arrived, so it’s time for my rankings of movies I have seen in the theaters last month. Heads up, compared to March, this time it will be a top 2. So with that, let’s dive into the rankings.
Michael: This movie allowed us to see the rise of a future legend. Everything from the acting, dancing, and singing the movie was a love letter to the golden age of Michael Jackson. Fun fact: Jaafar Jackson, the man who played Michael Jackson is Jackson’s actual nephew. This detail was a great way to keep the biopic in the family and guarantee that the film did justice to Michael Jackson. Despite the critics, this movie is a must see and even though you won’t see the allegations, this film absolutely shows us the glory days and Michael’s journey from the Jackson 5 to breaking away from his father’s grip and exploring his own sound. This is a must-see for everyone and I promise you will not regret.
The Drama: Zendaya and Robert Pattinson shine in this romance thriller. We see how each character goes through there own morals and struggles when a major bombshell is dropped a week before there wedding. This movie absolutely touches on heavy themes such as school shootings/mental health in teenagers. The filmmakers, however do such a great job of not glorifying the subject but rather show us the warnings of the stages teenagers have when they plan a shooting. It’s haunting but the ideology isn’t explored enough and this show should be watched by high schoolers/young adults/government officials. On top of the subject matter being handled in a dignified matter, the score really sells the thriller aspect of the film. Everytime the score plays, I felt the intensity/tension building in every scene. While the acting is the foundation for the scene, the score elevates it and everyone played their part in this film.
Overall, this was a great month for movies and I cannot wait for what May has in store.
