Avengers Endgame: Encore
Warning: Spoilers for post credit scenes.
I first saw this movie in theaters when I was 17 and it was for me cinematic history. The way the audience was cheering when every single hero that was “blipped” (god I wish they had a different word for Thano’s snap) but anyway was electrifying for me. So seeing it again in theaters at 24 years old, the feeling was incredible. I was that 17 year old girl again seeing everything come to life again.
My favorite moment was when Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther) came back. I never thought that I would see him on the big screen again and to see him in that moment, the eyes and the facial expression tell every thought he is unable to say in that moment without words. I love and respect the actor who was gone too soon. This is one of the few reasons I went to see the movie, along with Stan Lee’s last cameo and the post credit scenes.
Speaking of post credit scenes, the mid and post credit scenes have a lot of context to prepare us for Doomsday. From Loki interrupting Steve’s long awaited dance with Peggy to the TVA discovering how multiple universes are crashing. Seeing the panic and despair on Obie and Mobius’ faces were both devastating and shocking. This was one of the few scenes that I liked because not only did we get to see the recurring concept of multiverse, but also how other universes/the TVA are going to be affected by Doom’s actions is amazing and I hope the TVA is included in Avengers:Doomsday since Loki is basically holding the multiverse with his own hands. God, I hope that Loki doesn’t die but considering how he is one of the few original actors to be in the MCU consistently throughout the phases, it could happen.
The one detail that I saw rewatching endgame was the facial expressions/eyes of the characters. When I first watched the movie, I was only invested in the story and how every single hero would come back to reality. However, rewatching the reactions of the characters discovering that the stones are destroyed was devastating. The way the eyes either look down or have a glassy reaction as if they would cry is haunting. I wish I had noticed that before but watching as an adult it’s interesting to find those subtle details that I missed the first time around.
The post credit scenes were fun and there’s a fun throwback to how Doom is introduced. The hammering as the camera pans to the hammer banging on metal. I love the throwback and how the progression changes from the representation of Iron Man to Doom is incredible.
Overall, this was a great rewatch and the post credit scenes, for the most part, did not disappoint.
