Hazbin Hotel Season 2 Review
Overall, I really love this season. Vivienne and the animation team really stepped up. The way the characters move and engage in body language was slick and clean that I don’t believe I’ve seen in animation since The Owl House.
I never thought I would say that Sir Pentious and Nifty were the stars in this season for me, they were. Nifty being crazy but helpful in her own way. Her song Clean it Up at first couldn’t get into. However, overtime I really got into and now I jam to it atleast once a day LOL! Also, she was more useful in helping Charlie vs. being a side character no one really notices except to say the most random stuff (which was funny in season 1). However, every dialogue she had had some kind of reason this season. Also, her friendship with Baxter was so sweet and I ship them! Not that I want them to get together, but I love there dynamic as its logic and crafty vs. creative and badass. It was awesome to see, especially as Nifty gets her own fight scene with Velvet in the finale. (Sorry for the spoiler!). It was awesome and so sweet but insane.
Sir Pentious, while struggling to life in Heaven is able to find his grounding. His ability to take what he learned from Charlie was incredible and inspire Sera to make changes in how she views sinners was impressive. The dynamic with him and Emily was perfect. While Emily’s tactics of making him welcome were a little excessive, she had great intentions and when she realized her ways weren’t working, she was able to adjust and meet him at his level. Which was awesome and showed that compromise is important in any friendship/relationship. Love Sir Pentious in this season.
A lot of the songs did help move the story along, but my favorites were Gravity, Piss (a love song), Sera’s Confession, Clean it Up, Losin Streak, Love in a Bottle, and Easy. Those songs really stood out to me (Honorable Mention: VOX POPULI). Only honorable because had this been a Lucifer rock solo, it would’ve been in my list of favorite songs this season.
Only notes I have is I wish Angel had gone back with Husk and Cherri to the hotel, however deep down I know he’s only staying with the Vees because of Vox’s mind control on him which (what the fuck, VOX). It says a lot about Angel and how far he is willing to go in order to protect the people he loves. However, it would’ve been nice to see him back with Fat Nugget, recovering from what happened. However, I hope we get that ending for Angel next season.
Another note is I wanted to see more of the Speaker of God and Lilith. I love the design of the Speaker of God as she looks beautiful and was one of the few voices in heaven with some reason. She was able to balance justice and compassion for the sinners and her appearance made me tear up when she comforts Sir Pentious, it was beautiful and made me cry, seeing him go through so much pain. Lilith, I thought we would’ve been building up to her reveal and who voices her and was a little let down we didn’t more of her. However, the finale gave me hope that we’ll finally see her in Season 3.
Finally, love the backstories of Vox and Alastor because it showed how they became the sinners they are today and there fight scene was slick and neat. The animation did an amazing job of creating that scene. Especially the part where Alastor was gliding on a building railing as Vox’s shark was chasing him. It was awesome and hope we get more fight scenes like that in future seasons!
Overall, love this season and cannot wait for the next one.
